Rebecca has both public and private sector experience, having begun her legal career in the Attorney-General’s Chambers (“AGC”) before moving into a practice centred around civil and commercial disputes. She combines her training in transactional and advisory roles with her current specialisation in litigation and disputes to provide clients with well-rounded and practical solutions. Rebecca’s varied experience – across the public and private sectors, encompassing both contentious and non-contentious work – allows her to provide clients with strategic and holistic advice.

Rebecca’s main practice areas cover a wide range of disputes work, including matters involving contracts, technology, cryptocurrency, and property ownership issues. Having started her private practice career in a boutique law firm focused on dispute resolution in family and community law, the scope of her practice has expanded to include civil and commercial disputes, representing both individuals and companies in their complex (and often cross-border) disputes.

Beyond disputes, Rebecca also engages in advisory work. This includes guiding individuals in areas such as employment law (especially in respect of post-termination rights and obligations, particularly regarding non-compete clauses), and advising corporations on various contractual and regulatory matters.

Before transitioning into private practice, Rebecca was a Deputy Public Prosecutor and State Counsel at the AGC, having undertaken prosecutorial, disputes-related, advisory, and transactional roles in its Civil and Criminal Divisions. Rebecca also underwent training at the Legal Aid Bureau. This broad-based public sector training enables her to advise on matters across a wide range of subjects – ranging from technical areas like technology-related procurement contracts, privacy and data protection, to aspects of community law such as criminal prosecutorial work and family law matters.

International Arbitration / Disputes

Acted in a multi-million dollar international arbitration for a cryptocurrency platform against a trading desk, connected to the June 2022 cryptocurrency crash.
Acted in a multi-million dollar international arbitration in respect of a property development located in a Southeast Asian capital.
Acted for a licensed CFD platform in a multi-million dollar High Court claim, in respect of a cryptocurrency fraud, in relation to Mareva and proprietary injunctions, and disclosure orders against various cryptocurrency exchanges.

Domestic Commercial Arbitration / Disputes

Acted in a multi-million dollar High Court claim for high-net-worth individuals based in Taiwan against claims for breach of trust, in respect of 2 investment properties located along Orchard Road in Singapore.
Acting in a six-figure claim for an MCST against a domestic insurer, in respect of claims arising out of 3 separate on-site fires.
Acted for a landlord in successfully obtaining summary judgment against a tenant for unpaid rent and other sums owing.

Employment, Investigations, and Advisory

Advised various employees and employers in respect of restrictive covenants, wrongful termination, and other employment-related matters.
Acted for a company in issuing a cease-and-desist letter to a former employee, in respect of possible breaches of the employee’s post-employment obligations under the governing employment agreement.
Advised a Japanese corporation in respect of agreements for the distribution of consumer products in Mainland China.
Advised the Singapore Government (various ministries and government agencies) on areas of law including intellectual property, confidentiality, and statutory interpretation and compliance.

Non-Commercial Disputes and Court Matters

Defended an individual against a High Court claim brought by the Singapore Government, regarding a sponsorship agreement entered into by their sibling and for which they were the guarantor. The claim was eventually discontinued.
Assisted in High Court matters relating to the admission of advocates and solicitors in Singapore.

Family / Private Client

Assisted in an appeal to the Appellate Division of the High Court in a matrimonial litigation matter.
Assisted in a Hague Convention child abduction case, supporting the client in their application for the return of a child under the International Child Abduction Act 2010.
Advised and represented clients in obtaining grants of probate or letters of administration.

Criminal Matters

‍Represented an individual who faced charges under the Securities and Futures Act 2001.
Prosecuted a wide range of offences in Singapore, and appeared before the Courts for various plead-guilty mentions, for charges under the Penal Code 1871, Road Traffic Act 1961, Protection from Harassment Act 2014, and COVID-19 Temporary Measures Act 2020.
‍Appeared before the District Courts as part of a team for trial in relation to, among other charges, a charge of use of criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty, in respect of which the accused was eventually found guilty.
