Joshua specialises in litigation and arbitration. He has significant experience in handling commercial disputes, construction disputes, fraud and asset recovery, trust disputes, contractual disputes and insurance disputes.

Joshua is able to take on factually and legally complex matters, and believes in providing strategic, practical and straightforward advice.

Joshua has appeared at all levels of the Singapore courts and various arbitration institutions, representing both institutional and individual clients.

During his free time, Joshua enjoys playing football, reading, karaoke and spending time with his family and friends.

Civil & Commercial Disputes

  • Acted for two state owned European energy companies and six European insurers in their claim against a Chinese vessel owner arising out of damage to a gas pipeline in the Gulf of Finland.

  • Acted for C&D, a Chinese state owned company in a trading dispute relating to the sale and purchase of light cycle oil (ISU Specialty Chemical Co Ltd v C&D (Singapore) Business Pte Ltd [2024] SGHC 285).

  • Acted for a multinational trading company in a contractual dispute relating to the sale and purchase of a material used in the manufacture of imitation cheese.

  • Successfully defended a solicitor in respect of a statement of account sought from his former client (Rahman Mohammad Jillour v Paretam Singh s/o Kishen Singh (alias Pritam Singh Gill) [2021] SGHC 30).

  • Acted for a facilities management company in a dispute relating to the wrongful discharge of foam and water by a fire alarm system in an airplane hangar.

  • Acted for a high net worth individual in a contractual dispute relating to his purchase of a new yacht.

Insurance Disputes

  • Acted for an insurer in defending a claim made by the insured under a marine cargo insurance policy for damage to a cargo of crane parts.

Construction & Engineering

  • Acted for a Catalist board listed construction company in a dispute relating to the construction of a good class bungalow.

  • Acted for a landowner and piling company sued for negligence and nuisance in respect of damage done to a neighbouring land due to piling works carried out on the landowner’s land.

  • Acted for a firm of architects in a dispute relating to defects arising from their allegedly negligent design of a condominium.

Restructuring & Insolvency

  • Advised an insurer on scheme of arrangement proposed by Pacific International Lines in respect of a debt of USD 5.2 million owed to them.

Property Ownership & Trust Disputes

Personal Injury & Accident

  • Defended Grand Rich and Yuan Ji Enterprises in a trial against a claim brought by a former employee injured at a construction site. Successfully obtained indemnity costs against the claimant (Nagarajan Murugesan v Grand Rich Electrical & Engineering Pte. Ltd. and others [2023] SGDC 64).

  • Defended ITW Construction and Hyundai-GS Joint Venture in an assessment of damages hearing for a claim brought by a former employee injured at a construction site (Muhammad Rahmatullah Bin Sudarman v ITW Construction Products (Singapore) Pte Ltd and another [2021] SGDC 176).
