(Senior Associate)

We speak with Joshua Ho who joins us as Senior Associate. He shares more about his pastimes and the experience that motivated him to pursue a career in law.

Tell me more about yourself

I graduated from University of Leeds in 2016 and was called to the Bar in 2019. I have been in practice for slightly more than 6 years now (and hopefully for many more years to come).

What inspired you to become a lawyer?

I think it was my first experience doing an internship handling litigation work that I realised I enjoyed the intellectual challenge and the challenge of presenting something in a succinct, logical and persuasive manner.

What are your areas of specialisation?

I focus on litigation and arbitration. More specifically, commercial disputes, construction disputes, fraud and asset recovery, trust disputes, contractual disputes and insurance disputes.

What was one case you handled that left a lasting impression on you?

Sometime in 2021 or 2022, I handled a criminal matter in which my client was charged with dangerous driving causing death. While the client did not appear remorseful when we spoke to him, his sister privately told me that he was actually deeply affected by the incident and would start crying whenever he came across news of a driver passing away from a traffic accident.

After the matter concluded and the client was released from a short stint in prison, I was pleasantly surprised to receive a call from him. He thanked me profusely for my assistance and for arguing for him at his plead guilty hearing, and he sounded much more at ease and relieved. It then struck me that the work we do as lawyers has a very real and significant impact on people’s lives.

What gives you the most satisfaction in your work?

Achieving a good outcome for the client and winning.

How do you handle the stresses of work?

I compartmentalise and try to accomplish my work in the office before leaving for the day (if possible). That way, I get to focus on resting and recharging when I return home. On top of that, I try to make time to play a weekly football game with my friends.

How do you like to spend your time outside of work?

Outside of work I normally take my time to read, exercise, watch Netflix or hang out with my friends and family.
